Well, it is Sunday night here in the Land of the Rising Fever and I am doing little more than watching soccer on TV and hanging out with my good friends Lonliness and Extreme Cold. In my delerium I have decided to bring you all something which I will laughably refer to as the "Phrase of the Day." It seems a little funny to call it "Phrase of the Day," because I guarantee you that I won't be supplying another one tomorrow, or on anything remotely resembling a regular schedule, but here is what some might feel inclined to refer to by the misnomer "Phrase of the Day" :
gakusee wa mina baka desu. This phrase means "All students are crazy." Gakusei are students, mina means everyone, and baka means crazy. It means crazy in the stupid sense though, and can't have the positive connotations that English word crazy can occasionally assume. Fortunately most Japanese people know the word 'crazy,' probably from being called that by foreigners before, so you can just use that if it isn't your intention to be inexcusably insulting by calling people, such as a whole classfull of students as in the example above, stupid. You can also say things such as "Sensei wa mina baka desu." (all teachers are crazy) or "Watashi no obaasan wa baka desu." (My grandmother is crazy.)(Sorry grandma; it is just an example!)
There. That sure was educational eh? No go check out this link for some really bizarre Japanese corporate flash, somehow promoting the new hatch-wagon Mitsubishi Colt. It is especially post-modern when you don't understand a word of the Japanese. Like me, unfortunately.
