Okay, so Thailand is really crazy. I wish that I was a gifted writer ad could sufficiently describe it, but you will all just have to see it for your self. This place is so much more different than anywhere I have been before; much more different than Japan is from the United States. Although American and Japanese culture seem to have some clout here, the Thais seem content to take what they want from other countries. Last night I saw some of that muay thai boxing, which was kindof interesting considering that I hadn't ever watched a boxing match all the way through before. Muay Thai is this strange kind of kickboxing that they do here. It was vaguely interesting but I doubt I will ever feel the interest to see it again. We actually ran into some other AETs while at the match and got into all sorts of shenanigans afterwards, One interesting thing that we experienced is this: they have all these crazy women here, and at first we mistook them for prostitutes because of the way they accosted us on the street with affection; but, it turns out that they are just trying to sucker us into eating at their restaurant and not the one down the street. So they run out in the street and grab you and act like they really like you, and you can sit and eat your dinner and drink your beers or whatever and just talk to them and pretend that someone likes you. We would always answer them in Japanese when they pounced on us, so they wouldn't be able to get very far with us, but then we ran into some who spoke Japanese so we hung out with them for a while, and it was fun. The constant solicitation by groups of people on the street does get a little tiresome, even if some of them are vaguely pretty but sleazy women. Most of them are creepy old men, very small children, and old ladies with elephants. But these things are much worse in the touristed areas so we have been trying to avoid them and were mostly successful until last night. We did go to the Tokyu store though, which is a big Japanese department store which has a branch in Bangkok, because I needed a bathing suit. And now, I am going swimming.
