race queens being photographed by otaku
Hey, everybody (saying that makes it sound like you are a group, and that you exist.) On Sunday I went to the world famous Twin Ring Motegi to see a Formula race. I have never been to a race before, and I am not particularly a big race fan, but it was pretty interesting. The place is of course way out in the middle of nowhere, because there's no room to build anything like that down here. But it was a nice drive through the mountains, and it really only took an hour and a half. There were of course a lot of race otaku there. But race nuts in Japan aren't one tenth as bad as race fans in America, who were all rednecks. I used to live two miles from Charlotte Motor Speedway, the home of NASCAR, but I never went to a race. Although on weekends the whole area was inundated with rednecks to the point where you couldn't go anywhere, which was a pain in the ass. There were three races on Sunday, and between the races we got to walk down into pit row. Unfortunately, letting us into pit row is not for the purpose of allowing us to look at the cars or anything, although sometimes you could see one deep in the garage; the main purpose was to let all the race queens be photographed. I can tell you that the otaku were out in full force for that. They were kinda creepy though. We also got to go to a big Honda Museum that they had there, because the whole place is run by Honda. It was cool because it had a lot of really old bikes and cars, as well as a few prototypes and the like. Also, Asimo was there, but he wasn't doing anything except standing there. There were only a few more earthquakes, but we couldn't feel them over the rumbling racing.
